For People is a team of skilled technologists improving government digital services for disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. We embed directly in government agencies to modernize software, systems, and platforms so that they better serve people.

Your Impact

You'll be a key hands-on contributor to a high-profile project with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) that impacts millions of people. We're working to transform a manual data process into an automated solution, and you will be at the heart of that technical work. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will write the complex queries and implement the business logic that drives this new system. Your work will directly ensure that accurate, timely data reaches state governments, strengthening the integrity of the nation's Medicaid program.

Our Culture

For People is a team of humans. We place a significant amount of emphasis on positive work-life balance, setting healthy expectations, and making sure our loved ones are taken care of first. That means picking a child up from school during the day or going for a mid-day walk is okay!

This is a 6-month contract position with a competitive hourly rate of $130/hr. This is a fully remote role, open to candidates located anywhere within the United States.

Due to the accelerated 6-month timeline and the complexity of the project, we have a strong preference for candidates with prior experience working with CMS or state Medicaid data. This background will be crucial for ramping up quickly and making an immediate impact on this high-priority initiative.

Your Opportunities

At For People, you will:

  • Design, write, and optimize complex SQL queries to extract and manipulate information from government Medicaid datasets, like T-MSIS.
  • Translate intricate policy requirements and business rules into accurate, efficient, and testable data transformations.
  • Develop and implement rigorous data quality checks to ensure the integrity and accuracy of sensitive enrollee data containing PHI.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineers to build, test, and deploy a new automated data pipeline within a cloud-based data lakehouse platform.
  • Work with business analysts and government stakeholders to understand, refine, and document data requirements for the project.
  • Contribute to the development of reporting mechanisms that provide insights back to the client.

You Bring

  • A humble and caring attitude aligning with For People’s values – how we work with passion, fun, curiosity, sustainability, humility, and respect
  • Significant hands-on experience as a data scientist or analyst, with a proven track record of delivering complex data projects.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL for querying and manipulating large, complex datasets.
  • Strong programming skills in Python for data analysis, scripting, and automation.
  • Experience working with data pipelines and ETL processes in a modern cloud environment.
  • A deep curiosity and passion for untangling complex problems and a drive to see your work create a positive social impact.
  • Familiarity with Medicaid data is a significant plus.

Additional Details

You will be working on a United States government platform, and they have a few basic requirements for contractors like ourselves. You must perform all work physically within the United States at all times. In addition, you must be a United States citizen and be able to pass a government-performed public trust background check.

For People is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, genetics, and/or veteran status.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability
Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
